Volker Bouffier

Volker Bouffier was born on the 18th of December 1951 in Gießen. He has been a member of the German Federal Council for the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) since 1999. Besides, he is the minister-president of the State of Hesse.

Political career[edit]

Before his political career, he worked as a research assistant at the Department of Public Law in Gieβen. He also worked as a lawyer and notary. Since 1978 he has been a member of the State Executive Committee of the CDU in Hesse. Between 1991 and 2001 he was the Deputy Chairman of the CDU in Hesse and from 1979 to 1993 he was city councillor in Gieβen. He was a member of the district council in the district of Gießen between 1979 and 1999 and he was a member of the State Parliament of Hesse between 1982 and 1987 and from 1991. He has been the State Chairman of the CDU in Hesse since 2010. Moreover, from 1987 to 1991, he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice of Hesse. Between 1999 and 2010, he served as the Minister of the Interior and Sports in the State of Hesse.

Education[edit]

Bouffier graduated from German secondary school in 1970 with the Abitur (A-Level). Between 1970 and 1975 he studied law in Gießen.
