Guru Nanak founded the Sikh religion in the sixteenth hundred years. It was supposed to be described as a religion that was expected to eradicate the ills of Hindu society just like the caste system, sati and splendour against women. The Gurus preached against such ills associated with Hindu society. The tenth Guru Gobind Singh gave a new and militant form to some pacifist religion and created the Sikh as a soldier and knight. This happened at the popular darbar( meeting) at Anand pur Sahib initially of the eighteenth century about the occasion of Baisakhi( Punjabi New Year).

The Sikhs thus had been administered a distinct identity by the Guru. Unfortunately following the demise of the Gurus the successors of the Gurus allowed practices to creep as went against the grain in the teachings of the Sikh Gurus. To start with the Gurus had envisioned a classless culture, yet the caste factor crept into daily Sikh life. Thus we have had Sikhs classifying themselves while Jats, Khatris, Ramgariahs and even scheduled cast Sikhs, often referred to as Mazhabi Sikhs. This is difficult to comprehend as the Gurus were never in favor of caste as being a division of society. Partcularly galling is the technique of Mazhabi Sikhs( Scheduled caste Sikhs), that's totally against the Sikh thought as espoused by the Gurus. The problem does not end here, because the Indian Army also recruits Mazhabi Sikhs for the Sikh Light Infantry regiments.

Coming to the very idea of sati. This again is a good abhorrent practice, but the queens of Mahrajah Ranjit Singh the founder of the Sikh empire were forced to commit Sati for the funeral pyre of the full. This again is difficult to understand as the Gurus had expressly forbidden this wicked practice. Yet it did to a extant flourish in the Punjab. It can be difficult to reconcile, how the Sikh queens were consumed on the particular funeral pyre and the Sikh clergy did nothing about the idea.

A lot many other wicked practices so prevalent in Hinduism similar to Child marriage and female infanticide furthermore crept in. The Sikh high priests turned a blind eye to all or any this, forgetting that the Sikh Gurus had preached against it. Even now in the Punjab with the advent from the twenty first century the exercise of female infanticide is on the upswing and the male female ratio is seriously endangered.

The Sikhs have gone astray from your teachings of the Gurus and it will require the social reformer of standing who are able to correct the ills that have got crept in. The Sikh religion is a modern religion and also the head Granthis and priests cannot be permitted to call the shots.
