Sarah Champion was born in Essex in 1969 and moved to Northamptonshire in 1977. She has been the Labour MP for Rotherham since 2012.

Political Career[edit]

Sarah Champion is one of the most recently elected MPs, having gained her seat at a by-election. She is currently a member of the Transport Select Committee, Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for the Yorkshire Tour de France, PPS (Parliamentary Private Secretary) to Tristram Hunt, Shadow Education Secretary, and a member of the Labour Parliamentary Women’s Group.

Notable Work[edit]

In 1996 Sarah Champion was offered the position of running the Chinese Arts Centre in Manchester which she did until 2008. This was an international agency promoting contemporary arts and culture. She became heavily involved in promoting diversity and equality, advising the Arts Council of England on this for eight years. In addition she was a Trustee and Chair of many arts and community organisations including a community print co-operative, Boojum Theatre Company, Creative Capital and Step Out Arts (which she still chairs).

Education[edit]

She attended Prince William Comprehensive School in Oundle and then went on to gain a BA in Psychology at Sheffield University.
