Roger Nicholas Edwards

Roger Nicholas Edwards, Lord Crickhowell, was born on February 25th 1934 in London England. He is a member of the Conservative Party. Before entering politics he was a director of William Brandt’s insurance brokers and a director of National and Grindlays Bank Ltd.

Political Career[edit]

Edwards became a Member of Parliament after he was elected in the 1970 General Election to the Pembrokeshire constituency. During the period 1975 to 1979, he was the Opposition Spokesman for Welsh Affairs. Upon Margaret Thatcher’s accession to Prime Minister in 1979, he became the Secretary of State for Wales, a position he held until his retirement in 1987. In 1987 he was made a life peer receiving the title, Baron Crickhowell, of Pont Esgob in the Black Mountains and County of Powys. The last committee he served upon was in 2010 and was the Constitution Committee.

Education[edit]

He was educated at Westminster School and Trinity College Cambridge. He received an honorary LL.D from the University of Glamorgan.
