Robert Temple Armstrong
Robert Temple Armstrong, Baron Armstrong of Ilminster, Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath, Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, was born on 30th March 1927. He is a British life peer and former civil servant.

He was educated at the Dragon School, Eton College, where he was a King's Scholar, and Christ Church, constituent college of the University of Oxford in England.
Political Career[edit]
Robert Armstrong worked in several departments, including Her Majesty's Treasury and the Home Office, UK governmental department responsible for immigration, security, and law and order. From 1970 to 1975 he served as the Principal Private Secretary to the Prime Minister. He was knighted in 1978. From 1979 to 1987 he worked as Secretary of the Cabinet under Margaret Thatcher. He was subsequently made a life peer as Baron Armstrong of Ilminster, of Ashill in the County of Somerset in 1988, and sits as a crossbencher. From 2000 to 2003 he was he was member of the EU Subcommittee on Economic and Financial Affairs, and International Trade. Armstrong is currently member of the Administration and Works Committee.
Notable Work[edit]
During the last 25 years he was Chairman of a number of organizations, such as the Board of Trustees of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Hestercombe Gardens Trust, the Board of Governors of the Royal Northern College of Music, and the Leeds Castle Foundation. He has been as well Chancellor at the University of Hull. Lord Armstrong is chairman of the Sir Edward Heath Charitable Foundation.
