Olaf Scholz
Olaf Scholz was born on the 14th of June 1958 in Osnabrück. He has been a member of the German Federal Council for the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) since 2011. Besides, he is the President of the Senate and the First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
Political career[edit]
Between 1990 and 1998 he was a syndic of the Central Association of German consumer cooperatives. In 2001 he was the interior minister of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. From 1998 to 2001 and again from 2002 to 2011 he was a member of the German Bundestag. Between 2005 and 2007 he was the First Parliamentary Secretary of the SPD parliamentary group. Moreover, between 2009 and 2011, he served as the deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. From 2002 to 2004 he was the Secretary General of the SPD and from 2007 to 2009 he was the Federal Minister of Labour and Social Affairs. Since 2009 he has been the Deputy Chairman of the SPD.
Education[edit]
After graduation, Scholz studied law in Hamburg. In 1985 he became a lawyer.
