Norman Roy Blackwell, Baron Blackwell

Norman Roy Blackwell, Baron Blackwell was born on 29 July 1952. He is a British businessman, public servant, politician, campaigner and policy advisor.


Political career[edit]

Between 1986 and 1987 Norman Blackwell was a member of Margaret Thatcher's Prime Minister's Policy Unit. He was also head of the Prime Minister's Policy Unit under the government of John Major from 1995 to 1997, where he co-ordinated domestic policy development across government departments. In 1997, he was created a life peer as Baron Blackwell of Woodcote in the County of Surrey. From 2013 until 2014 he was member of Secondary Legislation Scrutiny Committee, from 2008 until 2010 he was member of Delegated Powers and Regulatory Reform Committee. From 2007 until 2012 he joined EU Sub-Committee E - Justice and Institutions. Between 2004 and 2008 he was a member of European Union Committee. From 2003 until 2007 he was also a member of EU Sub-Committee A - Economic and Financial Affairs, and International Trade. From 2002 until 2010 he was a member of ax Law Rewrite Bills ' joint Committee.

Education[edit]

He studied at Latymer Upper School and then at The Royal Academy of Music in London. He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge with a master of arts in natural sciences in 1973. He then attended the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated with a master of business administration in 1975 and then in 1976 with a doctor of philosophy in finance and economics.
