Lord Denham

Bertram Stanley Mitfield Bowyer was born on the 3rd October 1927. He is a British Conservative politician who is a member of the House of Lords.

Political Career[edit]

From the period 1961 until 1964, Bowyer served as a House of Lords Whip. In 1970 he was once again made a whip until 1972 when he was promoted to become Captain of the Yeoman of the Guard, a post he held until 1974. After Margaret Thatcher returned the Conservatives to power in 1979, Denham was given the position, Captain of the Gentleman at Arms which he held up until the John Major government.

Although he initially lost his seat in the House of Lords along with the other hereditary peers, he was eventually re-elected as one of the 92 remaining peers. During his time in parliament, Bowyer has served on a number of committees. The last committee he served on was the refreshment committee during the period 2004-2006.

Education[edit]

Bowyer studied at Eton College and Kings College, Cambridge.
