Lord Broers

Baron Broers was born on the 17th September 1938 in Calcutta, India.

Political Career[edit]

He was created a life peer in 2004, as Baron Broers, of Cambridge in the County of Cambridgeshire. He was appointed Chairman of the Science and Technology Committee of the House of Lords from 2004 to 2007 and was President of the Royal Academy of Engineering from 2001 to 2006.

Education[edit]

He was educated at Geelong Grammar school and Melbourne University in Australia. He then went on to study at the University of Cambridge.

Notable Work[edit]

Broers was the master of Churchill College, Cambridge from 1990-96 and Head of Cambridge University Engineering Department from 1993-1996. He became Vice Chancellor of Cambridge University in 1996 and held the post until 2003. He was knighted in 1998.
