Katalin Bogyay was born in Székesfehérvár, Hungary. She is currently the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, as well as the Permanent Delegate for Hungary to UNESCO.
Political career[edit]
Katalin Bogyay has worked for the Hungarian Television as a TV presenter and producer in the Evening News Programme, as well as the Arts and Culture Section in 1983. In 1990, the British Government offered her a scholarship with the BBC to study media in democracy. Bogyay then studied International Communications in London as a Chevening Scholar and Fellow from 1993 to 1994. Throughout the 1990’s, she worked with various international and Hungarian TV and Radio programmes. During the year 1998, she was a television producer in London and became involved with the international communication campaign for the UNESCO World Conference on Science in Budapest. In 1999, she began working as a diplomat for the Hungarian Ministry of Culture, as well as opening the Hungarian Cultural Centre in London’s Convent Garden. From 2006 to 2009, Bogyay was the Hungarian State Secretary for International Affairs at the Hungarian Ministry of Culture and Education. In 2009, she became Hungary’s Ambassador and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO in Paris. Since 2011, she is currently the President of UNESCO’s 36th General Conference.
Education[edit]
Katalin Bogyay studied economics at Karl Marx Univeristy of Economics in Budapest in 1978. She received a postgraduate diploma in Arts Journalism in 1981. Bogyay received a Master of Arts in Communications from the University of Westminster in 1994. Soon after, she went on to receive London and Read Counselling at the Westminster Pastoral Foundation in London. Bogyay was awarded with an Honorary Doctorate from Glasgow University.
