José María Barreda Fontes is a Spanish politician, member of the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Worker's Party), academic and current parliamentarian in the Spanish Parliament.

Political Career[edit]

He was born in Ciudad Real on January 4th, 1953. He graduated with a Bachelors in philosophy, as well as completing a PhD in History and Geography. He currently teaches Contemporary History at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, a position that he combines with his active political life. In 1983, he held his first official political position, working for the municipal council of Ciudad Real. Afterwards, he became the Minister for Education and Culture in the first Regional Government of José Bono Martínez. In 1988, he took up the position of Regional Minister for Institutional Relations but shortly afterwards was forced to give away the position in order to become Regional Vice-President. He held this position until the following year, when he was appointed to represent Castilla-La Mancha in the Congreso de los Diputados. Since then, he has held different positions in and out of the Parliament.
