Helmi Huijbregts-Schiedon

Helmi Huijbregts-Schiedon was born on the 13th of May 1948 in Rotterdam. She has been a member of the Dutch Senate for the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) since 2007. Since 2011, she has held the post of deputy chairman of the VVD-fraction in the Senate.

Political career[edit]

Between 1967 and 1971 she worked as a secretary. Between 1988 and 1992 she worked as a counsellor. Between 1978 and 1984 she was a member of the city council of Teteringen, where she held the position of an alderman responsible for education, culture, environment and finance. Between 1991 and 2001 she was a member of the States-Provincial of Noord-Brabant, which is a province in the Netherlands. Between 1995 and 2001 she was a member of the Provincial-Executive . Subsequently, from 2001 to 2009, she was the mayor of Oosterhout and in 2010 and 2011 she was the acting mayor of Roosendaal and, since 2013, of Lochem. In addition to her career, she was active in various different commissions of the VVD.

Education[edit]

In 1967 and 1968 she undertook training to become a secretary. In 1985 and 1986 she studied public management training in Utrecht.

Interesting facts[edit]

In 2001 Huijbregts-Schiedon became a Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. This order is a chivalric order open to everyone who has earned special merits for society.
