Fidelma Healy Eames

Fidelma Healy Eames was born on July 14th, 1962. She currently sits in the Seanad Éireann as an independent Senator.

Political Career[edit]

Fidelma Healy Eames won her first local election in 2004 and was elected to the Galway County Council. After standing for the first time in the general election in 2002.

She was later elected to Seanad Eireann in July 2007, as part of the Labour Panel. She was appointed Seanad Spokesperson on Education and Science in October, 2007.

Healy Eames was the Fine Gael Seanad Spokesperson on Social Protection until July 2013. Healy Eames later left the Fine Gael party, defying the party whip by voting against the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill of 2013. She has been sitting in the Seanad as an independent senator.

Education[edit]

Fidelma Healy Eames is a graduate of Carysfort College, Blackrock, Western Connecticut State University in US, and NUI, Galway, where she obtained B.Ed., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees respectively.

Notable Works[edit]

Fidelma is also a former primary teacher, a College lecturer in Teacher Education and is Director of her own business, FHE Education & Training Providers, Oranmore, a business providing learning and study-based courses to students, teachers and parents nationally.

She is the author of the book on education "Learning by Switching". Published by Sage Publications in 2005.
