Earl of Courtown
James Patrick Montagu Burgoyne Winthrop Stopford, 9th Earl of Courtown (born 19 March 1954), is an Irish peer and politician. He is one of the 92 hereditary peers elected to remain in the House of Lords after the House of Lords Act 1999 and sits for the Conservatives.
Political Career[edit]
The Earl of Courtown joined the House of Lords on the 24th July 1979. He has been a member of a number of committees throughout his time in Parliament including Digital Skills 2014-, Inheritance and Trustees’ Powers Bill [HL] 2013-13, EU Sub Committee D - Agriculture, Fisheries, Environment and Energy 2012-13, EU Sub-Committee G - Social Policies and Consumer Protection 2011-12, Hybrid Instruments Committee 1999-01.
Education[edit]
He was educated at Eton and the Berkshire College of Agriculture. He was further educated at the Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester. He succeeded to his father's titles in 1975.
Notable Work[edit]
He is a member of Cotswold Estates and Gardens Ltd (landscape and forestry contractors and consultants), Chartered Surveyor (non-practising) and is the Joint Chairman of the IPM Awards.
