Biography[edit]

Dora Bakoyannis was first appointed to the Ministry for Economic Coordination in 1977, working for the Department of European Economic Community (EEC) Affairs. She served as New Democracy deputy in the Greek Parliament for the Athens A' Electoral District in 1996, 2000, and 2007, and for the Evrytania constituency in 1989, 1990 and 1993 and also as Chief of Staff of the New Democracy leader Konstantinos Mitsotakis from 1984 to 1989. In 1990 she was appointed under-Secretary of State, Minister for Culture in 1992 as well as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2006 to 2009. Dora Bakoyannis was Mayor of Athens from 2002 to 2006, Chairperson to the Committee of Political Affairs and Democracy of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Vice President of the EPP CD Group of the Council of Europe, Co-rapporteur for Russia from the PACE Monitoring Committee, and Foreign Associate of the French Academy for Humanities and Political Sciences.

Dora Bakoyannis graduated from the German School of Paris, as well as from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the University of Athens in Political Science, Public Law and Communication.
