Tariq Mahmood Ahmad, Baron Ahmad of Wimbledon was born on 3 April 1968. He is is a British Pakistani businessman and a Conservative member of the House of Lords.


Political career

Vice chairman Conservative Party (Cities) Tariq was appointed to this role by David Cameron in 2008 and his brief covers the important area of cities and Communities. He has also been local councillor since 2002 in Wimbledon (LB Merton) for the Wimbledon Park ward. He is a Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Engagement and he is working in several fields such as community partnerships, including specific focus on voluntary sector, management of grants to community groups, Chairing Grants Committee and Merton Compact Board, development of CDZs, ensuring licensing policy and its consequences work in the interest of all citizens, reducing the threat of crime and anti-social behaviour in Merton and working closely with Police and Community Safety partnerships. He is also leading on community engagement, including Community Plan, and tackling youth offending. Another aim is to engage young people in the life of the community e.g. Youth Parliament and their responsibilities as part of the whole community.

Education

He studied in London and currently as Director of Marketing & Corporate Strategy heads up Sucden’s marketing, corporate strategy and research areas. He has a business degree and he is specialized in finance and investment.
