Willy Brandt drops to his knees at the Warsaw Ghetto Memorial and controversially signs the Warsaw treaties, withdrawing any German territorial claims in Poland. He receives approval and admiration from the international community for his actions. The following year, he wins the Nobel Prize for his Ostpolitik.
