Ulrike Höfken was born on the 14th of May 1955 in Düsseldorf. She has been a member of the German Federal Council for the Alliance '90/The Greens since 2011. She is also the Minister of State and the Minister for the Environment, Agriculture, Food, Wine and Forestry in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

Political career[edit]

Before her membership of the Federal Council, she worked in the Rhineland Chamber of Agriculture and the Institute of Physics and Engineering of the University of Bonn. She was also a research assistant in the German Bundestag, the European Parliament and the Association of Citizens' Initiatives for Environmental Protection (BBU). Between 1989 and 2001 she was the leader of the council in Bitburg-Prüm. Between 1990 and 1994 she was the chairman of Alliance 90 / The Greens in Rhineland-Palatinate. Moreover, she was a member of the German Bundestag between 1994 and 2011.

Education[edit]

Höfken graduated from German secondary school in 1974 with the Abitur (A-Level). Subsequently, she studied agriculture, economics and Romance studies in Bonn.
