Since the 9/11 attacks, American foreign policy has been largely preoccupied with issues relating to global terrorism and extremism. In recent years, the Obama administration has also turned its focus to the [[Arab Spring]] and conflict resolution in the Middle East. Although the government has assumed a greater role in world affairs, its internal and external politics remain deeply intertwined.
