Term coined by Cuban anthropologist Fernando Ortiz in 1940. Transculturation is very similar to the concept of cultural convergence. It describes the phenomenon of different cultures merging and converging with each other; although there is concrete social change in the sense of there being increased social interaction between cultures and societies, this does not lead to the creation one dominant culture.
