Tariq Modood is the Founding Director of the Research Centre for the Study of Ethnicity and Citizenship and plays a leading role in research into ethnic minorities in Britain. He is a Professor of Sociology, Politics and Public Policy at the University of Bristol and has held over 40 grants and consultancies in these fields. 

== Professional Career ==

From 1997-2000, Modood was part of the Commission on the Future of Multi-Ethnic Britain. Following this, he served in the IPPR Commission on National Security from 2007-2009 and the National Equality Panel from 2008-2010. As Founding Director of the Research Centre for the Study of Ethnicity and Citizenship, he has been involved in British politics trying to reduce the divide within Britain’s multicultural society.  He is heavily involved in public engagement and regularly contributes to media and policy debates in Britain. 

== Education ==

Modood  obtained a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the University of Durham and holds a PhD from the University College Swansea in Wales. He was awarded fellowships at Nuffield College Oxford and the University of Manchester and worked as a Senior Research Fellow at the Policy Studies Institute from 1993-1997. 

== Notable Work ==

He is the co-founding Editor of the well-known international journal Ehtnicities. He has published a number of works including Multiculturalism: A Civic Idea (2007), Secularism, Religion, and Multicultural Citizenship (2009), and European Multiculturalism (2012). He was awarded an MBE for his contribution to social sciences and ethnic relation in 2001.
