In 1982, he was appointed Chief of Science and Technology Section Natural Resources Division, of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and served till 1997. He was transferred to the UNECA North Africa Sub-regional Development Centre as Chief Senior Economic Affairs Officer. From 2000 to 2005, he led short-term consultancies for UNICEF research groups. Since 2005, he serves as Pro-Chancellor of the University of Mauritius, Chairman of the University of Mauritius Council, and Chairman of the Mauritius Research Council.
