Sjaak Koenis

Sjaak Koenis is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Professor of Social Philosophy at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. He particularly does research on the relationship between politics and culture. He was born in 1955.

Professional Career

Koenis worked as a researcher at the Dutch Institute for Care and Welfare from 1991-1992. He was Editor of the journal series Graphite from 1985-1993 and started to serve as an Assistant Professor at Maastricht University in 1994. In addition to that, he now acts as Editor of Philosophy & Practice, Secretary of the Department of Philosophy, and Education Director of the Master of Arts and Social Sciences, as well as member of the Graduate School of Science, Technology, and Modern Culture (WTMC).

Education

Sjaak Koenis obtained his PhD from University of Groningen in 1989 and completed three years of post-doctoral research at the University of Amsterday from 1991-1993.

Notable Work

Sjaak Koenis released a number of relevant publications including: Between Margin and Profession, Frankfurt and Chicago: Two Views on the Practical Role of Sociologists (2001), The Desire for Community: About Morality and Politics in the Netherlands after the Compartmentalization” (2007), and The Desire for Culture, The Netherlands, and the End of Religion in Modern Politics (2008).
