Hedebouw became politically active in 1996 during the student strikes against Minister Michel Lebrun, where he led the "Herstal Student Committee". He then became active in the WPB party, where he is still a spokesperson. During the local elections in October 2012, he was elected Councilor of Liège and after the federal elections of May 2014, he was elected as representative of Liege as well.
