Phil Hogan (born 4 July 1960) is an Irish Fine Gael politician. He has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Carlow–Kilkenny constituency since 1989, and was the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government from March 2011 to July 2014. He is the designate European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development.
Political Career[edit]
He is the Party's National Director of Elections and was first elected to the Dáil in 1989. He has held a number of senior Party and Oireachtas roles, and was formerly Minister of State at the Department of Finance, with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works and Public Expenditure from December 1994 to February 1995. Phil Hogan TD was appointed to be Ireland's EU Commissioner on July 11, 2014 by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD. He previously served as Minister for Environment, Community & Local Government from March 9th 2011 to July 11th 2014. He represents the constituency of Carlow-Kilkenny.
Education[edit]
He was educated locally in St. Joseph's College; Freshford, St. Kieran's College in Kilkenny and University College Cork where he qualified with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Higher Diploma in Education.
