Norbert Walter-Borjans born in 1952 in Krefeld is a German politician and in the political party SPD. He is the current Finance Minister of North Rhine – Westphalia.

Political Career

Since 1983 he is a member of the SPD. From 1984 Norber Walter-Borjans carried out various functions in the State of North Rhine – Westphalia and started his mandate as a Deputy government spokesman in 1991. In 1998 he became State Secretary at the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Saarland followed by his work as a Freelance economic and communications consultant from 1999 to 2004. 2004 Norbert Walter.Borjans became State Secretary at the Ministry of Economics and Labour of the State of North Rhine – Westphalia and again was a consultant in 2005. 2006 he became the Head of the Department of Economics and properties of Cologne. From 2009 he started his work as a city treasurer of the city of Cologne and became the Finance Minister of North Rhine – Westphalia since 2010. He is a member of the Federal Council.


Education

Norbert Walter - Borjans grew up as the son of a carpenter and a seamstress in today's sea Busch Lank in Dusseldorf. After attending elementary school he moved to the high school Fabritianum in Krefeld - Uerdingen , from which he graduated in 1971 with the Abitur. From 1971 to 1972, Walter Borjans studied computer science and from 1972 to 1978 economics at the Rheinische Friedrich - Wilhelms- University in Bonn. In 1982 Walter Borjans completed a PhD at the Economic and Social Science Faculty of the University of Cologne.
