Politically Darabos first appeared in 1987 as a member of the municipal council of Nikitch. Until 2003, he held this function. From 1988 to 1991 Darabos was country manager of Burgenland Renner Institute, 1991-1997 spokesman for Governor Karl Stix. Since 1998 he has held the position of Country Manager of the SPÖ Burgenland and in 1999 was a member of the Burgenland Landtag since May 19. From December 2000 to March 2003 Darabos was club chairman of the Social Democratic Party parliamentary clubs.

On 3 March 2003 Darabos became national director of the SPÖ. In 2004, he led the campaign of the later Federal President Heinz Fischer. In the same year Darabos was sworn in as a Member of the Austrian Parliament. At the 2006 national elections, he led the campaign the SPÖ with its leading candidate Alfred Gusenbauer.

Darabos went to elementary school and grammar school in Vienna. He finished his military community service from 1987 to 1987. He continued his education at the University of Vienna from 1982 to 1988 where he graduated in history and political studies.

Political Career

Politically Darabos first appeared in 1987 as a member of the municipal council of Nikitch. Until 2003, he held this function. From 1988 to 1991 Darabos was country manager of Burgenland Renner Institute, 1991-1997 spokesman for Governor Karl Stix. Since 1998 he has held the position of Country Manager of the SPÖ Burgenland and in 1999 was a member of the Burgenland Landtag since May 19. From December 2000 to March 2003 Darabos was club chairman of the Social Democratic Party parliamentary clubs. On 3 March 2003 Darabos became national director of the SPÖ. In 2004, he led the campaign of the later Federal President Heinz Fischer. In the same year Darabos was sworn in as a Member of the Austrian Parliament. At the 2006 national elections, he led the campaign the SPÖ with its leading candidate Alfred Gusenbauer.
