Norbert Darabos (born May 31, 1964 in Vienna) is an Austrian politician for the Austrian Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) and was on 11 January 2007 declared Minister of Defence On 11 March 2013 he resigned as defense minister to again assume the office of the Federal Executive of the SPÖ and to direct the election campaign of the party for parliamentary elections in Austria in 2013.

Politically Darabos first entered politics in 1987 as a member of the municipal council of Nikitch. He held this position until 2003. From 1988 to 1991 Darabos was country manager of Burgenland Renner Institute, 1991-1997 spokesman for Governor Karl Stix. Since 1998 he has held the position of Country Manager of the SPÖ Burgenland and in 1999 was a member of the Burgenland Landtag since May 19. From December 2000 to March 2003 Darabos was club chairman of the Social Democratic Party parliamentary clubs.  
 
On 3 March 2003 Darabos became national director of the SPÖ. In 2004, he led the campaign of the later Federal President Heinz Fischer. In the same year Darabos was sworn in as a Member of the Austrian Parliament. At the 2006 national elections, he led the campaign of the SPÖ with its leading candidate Alfred Gusenbauer.
 
In the legislature until 2013 he has been a deputy member of the following committees: Committee on Home Affairs, Justice Committee, Transportation Committee.
 
After the 2006 national elections, in which the SPÖ party won most votes was Darabos was a member of the negotiating team for the coalition negotiations with the ÖVP. In the following grand coalition he was defence minister.

Darabos went to elementary school and grammar school in Vienna. He finished his military community service in 1987. He continued his education at the University of Vienna from 1982 to 1988 where he graduated in history and political studies.
