The concept of NGOs was developed by the United Nations and refers to organizations created independently of governments working on a not-for-profit basis. An NGO’s decision making bodies must be independent of that of the government authorities. NGOs usually have social or political objectives such as the promotion of [[Human Rights|human rights]], alleviation of poverty, etc.
