Mitja Bervar (born July 18, 1965) is the President of the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia.

Political career[edit]

He was elected to the National Council in 2012.

Mitja Bervar was recognized for his contributions in Slovenian Independece War.

Professional career[edit]

Bervar started his professional career at the Zdravilišče Dobrna in 1987 where he stayed until 1990 when he became a private entrepreneur. Afterwards he was The Secretary General of the Society of Slovenian Composers (2001 - 2009), the Secretary General of the Slovenian music Information Centre (2004 - 2009) and lastly the Principal SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana (2009-2012).

He was active in the field of culture; among others he was the Chairman of the organizing committee of the international event World Music Days in Slovenia (2003), the Head of a comprehensive spatial renovation of Composers' Society of Slovenia (2005) and a Member of the Management Board of Ljubljana Music Society (2009).

Education[edit]

Bervar has a BA in Economics. He is qualified to work in the field of supervision and management boards of companies.
