On Sunday July 26th the Jewish Museum in Berlin will present a jazz concert by two Israeli musicians, Itamar Erez and Yshai Afterman. The concert, supported by the Israeli Embassy, will take place as part of the summer cultural program “Jazz in the Garden” and will be a unique opportunity to experience Middle Eastern jazz in Berlin. As a culinary accompaniment to the musical performance, a selection of light dishes and picnic baskets will also be on offer.

Itamar Erez is an Israeli born Canadian composer, pianist and guitarist, who likes to combine aspects of traditional oriental music with jazz and flamenco in his pieces. Early on in his career, Erez received several annual grants from the America-Israel Cultural Fund to support his studies in guitar, piano and composition. He studied classical guitar under Mr. J. Urshalmi, known to be an expert in the classical guitar field, and continued to be taught by renowned teachers such as M. Wiesneberg (piano, theory) and Prof. Abel Ehrlich (composition).

In 1997 Erez received the Israeli Prime Minister’s Creation Prize for Composers, and in 2000 he was a finalist in the 18th ALEA III International Composition Competition in Boston. From 2005 to 2006, the artist went to Spain to study under the great Brazilian composer Egberto Gismonti and the Spanish flamenco maestro Gerardo Nunez.

Erez will perform alongside the talented percussionist Yshai Afterman, to create a unique dialogue between the guitar and percussion. In January 2013, the duo recorded their debut album "New Dawn", which included a special guest performance from Antonio Serrano on the harmonica. The pair are currently touring Canada, the USA, Germany and the Netherlands.

The event will be held in the garden of the Jewish Museum in Berlin. Admission is free of charge.

Address: Jüdisches Museum Berlin, Lindenstraße 9-14, 10969 Berlin
