Michel Berson (born April 21st, 1945) is a French Senator representing the Department of Essonne and is currently an independent senator after being expelled from the French Socialist Party in 2011.

Political Career[edit]

Berson entered politics in 1977 when he was elected Mayor of Crosne. Later, he became a Municipal Councilor for Canton d’Yerres and Canton d’Évry-Nord, a position he still holds.

From 1981-1997, Berson served in the French National Assembly, originally for the first district and later for the eighth district of Essonne.

In 2011, despite being expelled from the French Socialist Party due to an inconsistent voting record, Berson was elected to the French Senate for the Department of Essonne.

Since joining the Senate, Berson has served on the Finance Committee as well as the Parliamentary Office for the Evaluation of Scientific and Technological Choices (OPECST).

Education[edit]

Berson holds a Financial Economics Doctorate from the Faculty of Lille.
