Menzies Campbell, Liberal Democrat MP. United Kingdom House of Commons

Sir Walter Menzies Campbell has been the Liberal Democrat MP for North East Fife since 1987 and was born in 1941.

Political Career

In Parliament he has served primarily as a defence and foreign affairs spokesman, becoming Shadow Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs in 1997. In 2003 he was appointed Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats and was Leader of the party from 2006 to 2007. He has been a member of several House of Commons Select Committees, including the Defence Committee, and is currently a member of the Commons Select Committee on Foreign Affairs and also Parliament’s Intelligence and Security Committee. He is presently the leader of the United Kingdom delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

Education

He grew up in Glasgow, was educated at Hillhead High School and went on to the University of Glasgow. where he was a contemporary of both John Smith and Donald Dewar studying Law and debating in the Union.
