María del Carmen Leyte Coello was born on 3rd December 1953 in Vigo, Spain. She is a Spanish politician, member of the Spanish Senate and member of the Popular Party (PP).

Political Career[edit]

María del Carmen Leyte has been Mayor of Cartelle, Ourense, since 1991. She has also been Secretary of the Popular Party of Ourense, Provincial Coordinator of the Popular Party of Ourense, member of the Steering Committee, Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Popular Party of Ourense, member of the Board of the Popular Party of Galicia and member of the National Board of the Popular Party.

She has also been a senator for the province of Ourense since 2008, a position that she successfully defended in 2011.

Education[edit]

She graduated High School in Haverling Central School, Bath, N.Y., USA and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Santiago de Compostela. She is also a specialist in Family and Community medicine.
