Malcolm Ian Sinclair, 20th Earl of Caithness, PC (born 3 November 1948) is a British Conservative politician and member of the House of Lords as one of the remaining hereditary peers. He is the Chief Executive of the Clan Sinclair Trust.

Political Career[edit]

Malcolm Ian Sinclair is one of the last remaining hereditary peers in the House of Lords. He joined the House of Lords in 2 December 1969 and has Life Peerage. He has served on a number of different committees throughout his time in Parliament. His was elected to the EU Sub-Committee G Social Policies and Consumer Protection as his first post in 1979. Between 1979 and 1982 he was a member of the EU Sub-Committee D - Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment. He was part of the Procedure Committee for the House of Lords between the periods of 1979-84, 1997-04 and 2002-04. He subsequently was appointed to the EU Sub-Committee F Home Affairs from 2003 - 07, the EU Sub Committee D - Agriculture, Fisheries, Environment and Energy between 2012-13 and the European Union Committee in 2014, a post which he still currently holds.

Notable Work[edit]

The Earl of Caithness is currently a trustee of the Queen Elizabeth Castle of Mey Trust and a trustee and Chief Executive of the Clan Sinclair Trust.

Education[edit]

The Earl was educated at Blairmore School, Aberdeenshire then Marlborough College and Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester.
