Lord Young of Graffham

The Rt Hon. Lord Young of Graffham is a Conservative member of the House of Lords. He joined the House of Lords in October 1984.

Politcal Career

He first became a minister in 1984. In 1985 he became Secretary of State for Employment until 1987 and was then appointed Secretary of State for Trade and Industry until 1989. He was a member of the Select Committee on Science and Technology from 2002 to 2007, and a member of the Science and Technology Committee from 2002 to 2005.

Notable Work

He was an executive at Great Universal Stores Ltd. In 1961 he set up his first business, Eldonwall Ltd. Throughout the sixties he built up a number of companies in industrial property, construction and plant hire. In 1975 he became Chairman of Manufacturers Hanover Property Services.
