Lord Graham of Edmonton

Thomas Edward Graham was born on the 26th March 1925. He is a Labour Co-operative politician.

Political Career[edit]

Graham first entered politics as a councillor on Enfield Borough Council from 1961. He then joined the new London Borough of Enfield in 1964 in which he became the leader of for the next ten years. He became the Member of Parliament for Edmonton in 1974, where he served as the Parliamentary Private Secretary at the Department of Prices and Consumer Protection from 1974 to 1976. He then became a government whip from 1976 to 1979, with the title of Lord Commissioner of the Treasury. He was the Opposition spokesperson on the environment from 1980 to 1983, when he lost his seat in the House of Commons. After losing his seat, in 1983, he was created a life peer, receiving the title Baron Graham of Edmonton, of Edmonton in Greater London. He was then made Labour Chief whip from 1990-1997.
