Lord Grade of Yarmouth

Michael Ian Grade was born on the 8th March 1943. He is an English television executive and businessman.

Political Career

On 25th of January, 2011 he was created a life peer as Baron Grade of Yarmouth, in the County of Isle of Wight. During his time in the House of Lords he was on two committees. The first committee he was on was the ‘Draft Defamation Bill’ in 2011. He then served on the ‘Small and Medium Sized Enterprises Committee’ from 2012 to 2013. His policy interests include ‘Business, industry and consumers’ and ‘culture, media and sports’. He also takes an interest in policies concerning the Isle of Wight and the Middle East.

Education

Grade was educated at Stowe School in Buckinghamshire and St Dunstan’s College in London.

Notable Work

Grade has also worked in television for a number of years. He was the chief executive of Channel 4 from 1988 to 1997. He was BBC chairman from 2004-2006 and then became the Chairman and CEO of ITV plc from 2007 to 2009. He is currently a trustee of the Science Museum, a role he has held since 2012. He was also commissioner of the Press Complaints Commission from 2011 to 2014.
