Joe Benton (Labour) Member of British Parliament

Joseph Edward Benton (born 28 September 1933) is a British Labour Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament for Bootle since 1990.

Political Career[edit]

Joe Benton started his career when he was elected as the MP for Bootle in 1990. He has held numerous posts as a Member of Parliament including Energy and Education and Employment. He was appointed to the Panel of Chairs in 1992 -1994 followed by another term in 1998 and 2001 - present. Joe Benton acted as Opposition Whip from 1994-97.

Education[edit]

Benton was educated at the St Monica's Roman Catholic Primary School on Aintree Road and Secondary School in Bootle and the Bootle Municipal Technical College (now part of the Hugh Baird College of Further Education).
