Joachim Herrmann was born on the 21th of September 1956 in Munich. He has been a member of the German Federal Council for the Christian Social Union of Bavaria (CSU) since 2013. He is also the Deputy Prime Minister of Bavaria and the Bavarian State Minister of the Interior and construction and transport.

Political career[edit]

Between 1984 and 1988 he worked for the government in the Bavarian State Chancellery. From 1988 to 1992 he served as the Head of Department at the District Office of Erlangen-Hochstadt. Subsequently, from 1992 to 1994 he was a lawyer and jurist at Siemens. Between 1983 and 1991 he was a member of the Federal Executive of the Young Union and in 1987 he served as the Deputy National Chairman of the Young Union. Between 1990 and 2003 he was a member of the City Council in the City of Erlangen and then became a member of the Federal Council of Bavaria in 1994. From 1997 to 1998 he was the Deputy secretary general of the CSU and between 1999 and 2003 the Vice-Chairman. Moreover, between 2003 and 2007, he served as the chairman of the CSU parliamentary group. Between 1998 and 1999 he was the State Secretary at the Bavarian State Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, Family, Women and Health.

Education[edit]

Herrmann graduated from German secondary school in 1975 with the Abitur (A-Level). Between 1976 and 1981 he studied law in Erlangen and Munich.
