Giannis Dragasakis (Greek: Γιάννης Δραγασάκης; born January 1, 1947 in Lasithi) is a Greek politician and economist. He is a member of the Greek Parliament for the Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) for the Athens B constituency and serves as the 4th Deputy Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament.

Political Career[edit]

Giannis Dragasakis is a Member of the Hellenic Parliament with the SYRIZA Party, representing the second constituency of Athens. He is also a Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and Chairman of the Subcommittee European Social Charter and a member of the Central Committee of SYRIZA.

He was a leading member of the Communist Party until 1991 and the Coalition since its inception. In the elections of June 1989, he was elected to represent the Chania region with the Coalition of the Left and Progress Party. He was appointed Deputy Minister of Economy, by the Zolotas’ universal Government (November 1989 - April 1990). He was re-elected as an MP in 1996, 2004, 2007 and May 6, 2012 elections.

He has previously been the Vice President of the Hellenic Parliament, and for many years a member of the Standing Committee of Parliament on the economy and budget.

He studied Political Science and Economics in Greece and abroad.
