Connected sets of rules or norms that prescribe behavioral roles, constrain activity, and shape expectations which can comprise of informal or formal entities. Institutions can range from formal international organizations, such as the United Nations, the World Bank, and NATO, to more informal agreements such as the Millennium Development Goals.
