Holger Poppenhäger, born April 3, 1957 in Kassel, is a German jurist and politician of the SPD. Since November 2009, he has been the Cabinet Minister of Justice of Thuringia.

Political Career[edit]

He was SPD regional chairman in Erfurt from 2006 to 2012. He was elected on 7 June 2009 in the municipal elections of Thuringia as a councillor in Erfurt. A simultaneous candidacy for the European Parliament failed. Since 2010 he has been a member of the Committee of the Regions of the European Union.


Education[edit]

1976-1984 Studied Law at Giessen; 1985-1987 clerkship in Frankfurt and Giessen; 1989-1994 Research Fellow and Head of the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden.
