Henrik Dam Kristensen (born 31 January 1957 in Vorbasse, Jutland) is a Danish politician and a former Member of the European Parliament. He is a member of the Social Democrats, which is part of the Party of European Socialists, and sat on the European Parliament's Committee on Fisheries and its Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection.

Political Career[edit]

He was a Minister for Employment from October 10th 2014, Minister for Transport October 3rd 2011-August 9th 2013, Minister for Social Affairs between February 23rd 2000 and November 27th 2001, Minister for Food Agriculture and Fisheries between December 30th 1996 and February 23rd 2000 and Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries September between 27th 1994 and December 30th 1996. He was the Nordic Council President from 1. jan. 2011 until 3. oct. 2011, a Member of the European Parliament between July 20th 2004 and October 15th 2006 and Chairperson of the parliamentary group of the Social Democratic Party 2013-2014

Education[edit]

He was a Head teacher at the Workers' Educational Association (AOF) in Grindsted 1988-1990 and worked for The Danish Refugee Council, Grindsted 1986-1988.

Notable Work[edit]

He was a Member of the Folketing (1990-2004) and then became the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries (1994-1996), Minister for Food (1996-2000), Minister for Social Affairs (2000-2001), Member of the European Convention, Member of the European Parliament (2004-2006) and eventually he became Secretary general of the Danish Social Democrats (2006- )
