She made her move into politics by becoming a member of the Freie Demokratische Partei (FDP) in the 1980s. Since her first political postings she gone gained increasing prominence; between 2002 – 2005 she was a Member of the German Bundestag, Member of the Defence Committee, Substitute member of the Tourism Committee and Deputy Member of the Cultural Committee. Since 2006, she has held the position of Regional Executive of the FDP in North Rhine-Westphalia, and Vice-Chairman of the Liberal NRW. Since 2008 she has been the FDP parliamentary candidate in the district of Siegen-Wittgenstein.

From 1999 to 2003 Helga Daub belonged to the district council of the district of Siegen-Wittgenstein and was there until October 2002 Chairwoman of the FDP faction. From 2002 to 2005 she was member of the German Bundestag. Focus their political activity was the defense policy here.
