Greenwashing

A compound term referring to the attempts of companies and businesses to deceptively promote their efforts and practices as being environmentally friendly. The term is used when more is spent on the advertising of a company’s ‘green status’ than on investment in the implementation of sustainable practices and policies, focusing on increasing profits rather than having a more positive impact on the environment.
