Gerrit Terpstra was born on the 4th of June 1940 in Buitenpost. He has been a member of the Dutch Senate for the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) since 2003.

Political career[edit]

Between 1964 and 1978 he worked for the National Federation of Christian Trade Unions in the Netherlands (CNV). Subsequently, between 1978 and 1986, he was a board member of the CNV. From 1986 to 1998, he was a member of the Dutch House of Representatives for the Christian Democratic Appeal and between 1999 and 2003 he was the chairman of the board of the Social Insurance Bank (Sociale Verzekeringsbank). He was a member of the States-Provincial in the province of Utrecht between 1999 and 2003.

Education[edit]

Terpstra studied economy at the VU University Amsterdam from 1957 to 1964.

Interesting facts[edit]

In 1998, Terpstra became a Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. This order is a chivalric order open to everyone who has earned special merits for society.
