O'Brien is a member of the Irish Fianna Fail Party. His first role in politics was a seat on the Fingall County Council. He became a Teachta Dala (TD) in 2007, in which he was chosen to represent the Dublin North Constituency. During his role as a TD, he was placed on a number of committees. He was Vice Chair of Public Accounts committee as well as a Member of the Select Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Women's Rights. He also served on the front bench as a spokesperson for sport. In March 2011 he was elected to the Irish Upper House in which he is the leader of the opposition. He is currently campaigning on a number of local issues, which include campaigning against government cuts to smaller schools and keeping the Garda stations open.

He was the first TD in his area to campaign successfully to deal with the scourge of Head Shops, which are now closed. Currently as an elected Senator, he believes that he can bring the right blend of youth and experience in his role as leader of the opposition in the Seanad. Darragh O'Brien has supported Irish Small and Medium Businesses and ensured foreign direct investment comes to North Dublin to create much-needed jobs.

Darragh O'Brien (08/07/2014 in Malahide) is an Irish Politician who is currently a member of the Irish Upper House (Seanad Eireann).

Political Career

O'Brien is a member of the Irish Fianna Fail Party. His first role in politics was a seat on the Fingall County Council. He became a Teachta Dala (TD) in 2007, in which he was chosen to represent the Dublin North Constituency. During his role as a TD, he was placed on a number of committees.
