Center-Periphery Relations[edit]

Theory pioneered by Norwegian sociologist, Johan Galtung. The Center-Periphery model describes the structural relationship between an advanced capitalist/colonial power and surrounding countries that are less developed. According to this theory, resources are constantly transferred to the center in order to ensure that the colonies are always at the same economic level.
