Growels worked 10 years for the CVP-PSC, the Christian Democratic CEPESS research department, and then about 10 years for the NGO Development ACT.In 1992 she was elected for the first time in the Brussels Parliament. In 1997 she was minister in the Flemish Government, and was responsible for Brussels Affairs and Equal Opportunities. After the 1999 elections, the CVP was no longer in the Flemish government and the Brussels government. Jos Chabert took over as minister.
